Buxton Pottery Painting Cafe
A melding of old and new
This exciting new pottery painting café provides entertainment and a social spot for all ages. Situated in the historic Cavendish Arcade, Buxton it was important to do justice to the architecture of this awe inspiring building and appeal to a wide range of people as well as perform well as a busy café and pottery painting space.
Inspired by the existing arc lamps in the mezzanine and the pink and mint tiles through the entrance hall of the arcade the design unfolded with sculptural shapes, geometric forms and a bold but sympathetic colour palette.
With it's magnificent high ceilings, over 7 metres high, acoustics was another important consideration, special sound baffling lampshades have been incorporated into the design

Inspiring creativity
The business is comprised of two distinct areas, the main café and a second mezzanine area which can also serve as a function room. The client wanted each to have their own identity. the mezzanine is covered with a striking stained glass ceiling which had to work with the design as it really commands the space. Black outlined geometric shapes continue the colour palette and assert this space making it an inspiring place in its own right. Arc borders to the shelving units frame the pottery options
